Well after what seems like forever I hopefully have my laptop working again. I was able to turn it on, but it decided on it's own when it was time to finish, then turn itself off!
I had to save as much information as possible from my hard drive and reset the thing to factory settings. This meant that I have had to re-install word and works, it appears that other things have also gone, but at least it's working now.
It's not until something like this happens that you realise how much you need your stored info. I had a lot of pictures that I assumes were safe, what I should have done is to store them on line. I know a bit slow aren't I! But they are now stored correctly.
Back to normal.
